Men wore women’s bras all day for a week on Saint Louis University's campus in support of raising breast cancer awareness. The Zeta Tau Alpha sorority began their week long philanthropy since Sunday, October 28th, Big Man On Campus. Male representatives of a Fraternity or other campus male organizations partake in competitions to raise money and be declared the BMOC of the year. The philanthropy supports and raises money for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
There are 14 representatives participating in BMOC. They are each coached by two Zeta members. The coaches help the representatives learn choreographed dances. They also provide encouragement to the representatives so they can be comfortable showing of their talent in a large crowd . Not only does this competition help sorority and fraternity increase and maintain friendships but allows the sorority sisters to connect deeper with one another and as well women across the nation. Emily Mirsberger share some of her thoughts on why it matter and how she got involved, “It is so important to keep people engaged in our cause as breast cancer affects so many families. I think BMOC is a great way to spread awareness and in a creative way”.
So far the representatives have participated in some carnival party competition and as well raising money through the Pie-A-Zeta event.”I had a great time getting to know the Zeta’s and my fellow contestants”, Rafael DaCosta said. DaCosta is freshmen and the representative for the Sigma Chi Fraternity. “It’s been fun participating and it feels even better because I know it’s for a good cause”. Rafael and the rest of the representatives will participate in a Talent Competition Main Event this Thursday, November 1st at the STL room at the Busch Student Center. He will be performing a three song medley including an original.
